1.Should government be responsible for keeping consumers safe?

In my opinion, I strongly agree the answer should be “yes!” Government should be responsible for keeping consumers safe.Government have to follow their duties, also keeping consumers safe is an important duty should do well. Sometimes, as consumers can protect themselves but it’s a hard work for them.However, to government it is easier, because they are stronger and powerful than individuals. In addition, I think the basic duty of government is keeping its public’s safe, no matter which aspect of safe is.



2. Should government be responsible for protecting the “common good”? What is the “common good”?

Yes, government should be responsible for protecting the common good. In my views, I think the meaning of “common good” is the advantage of everyone. We live in public environment, and we just one life, therefore, we need someone to protect the common people’s lives. This important duty should be do by government, because they are the most powerful organization in the place.

RESEARCH PROJECT

Before I did this project, I think I could not did well as those models that teachers
showed to us. However, now I did it, and also I think it may be better than some of
models. After that, I think my writing improved a lot. I know how to write such a
long paper and how to write references, also some of grammars more clearly than before, such as how to use “pain” and “painful”. During this process, I really tried to use paraphrase to write some sentences and also used the method--- summary. In addition, this is the first time I know how to do research and get books, articles from the library, that is very useful to my future study in the university. While I think my research papers are not excellent, because although I correct it by many times, it still has some mistakes. Also, my feeling about this writing is also not good. Anyway, I hope it good.

I really enjoy listening to the presentations that was very great. Because everyone’s presentations were prepared very well, they were lectures to me. In addition, some of them were really interesting, and from those I got knowledge from different aspects. Also, I think that was a good method to learn from each others, learn what is good, what we should not do it in our presentations. Some of them used great PowerPoint to show examples to audience very clearly, some of them used blackboard did it. No matter what they used in presentations, they did the great jobs to show us their research very clearly. During the process of preparing for my presentations, I knew how important about practice and some sentences you need to say during presentations. For example, how I can start the presentations ,how I connect each ideas , when I forget something what should I say…… In fact, I did not think I did a good job of my presentations. Maybe I was too nervous, therefore I spoke too fast, some words did not speak clearly, and also looked at my notes and PowerPoint too much. Anyway, I finished it, I learn from it, that is good, isn’t it? I strongly believe next time I can do better job.

Improving Academic Performance

That is a good reading, not just helps us to practice English and also get some good methods to study. I like this kind of reading so much, because I can learn some useful thing for my life.

There are a lot of study habits, if you have some good of them that will help you a lot, such as setting up a schedule for studying and playing, and find a right place to study. As we all know, in university, students have classes and social practice in different time, and because we do not want miss some of them and also keep good balance between them. Therefore, have a schedule is very useful. In addition, in my views, write down a study schedule is important, especially for some who can not control themselves well without their parents. For some students, when they go into the university always leave their homework until deadline and some of them can not finish their research paper and fail the course. If they have a schedule and push themselves to follow it, that will be better. In my case, if I want to study I prefer go home or library. For me, those are the right place to study. At home, it is more comfortable, I can wear what I want, a comfortable seat, desk and …… In library, I can pay more attention on books, because that environment pushes me to do like that.

In addition, in this reading also shows a important method that can improve the quality of study---------SQ3R reading system. It has 5 steps: Survey, Question, Read, Recite and Review. Follow those steps can get more information from books and remember more.

Lectures play a important role in university, although I am not in university yet, I know “getting more out of lectures”. Some students in university said the lectures are very hard to understand, if they go to those lectures equal to waste their time, they can read book by themselves and also get good marks. Sometimes it really works, but I believe attend lectures can save time. Because we can at least know some points and know which points are more important, therefore after lectures we should pay more attention when we read those parts, instead of read all of them but do not know which are more important. For sure, we study not just for good marks but we can not say marks are not important. Like when I did my Lecture Project, I could not understand all of them because I did not have any background of it. However, I still can got some important points and use them in my research paper. That is enough, isn't it?

Some of my friends always finish their homework at midnight, as a result , the quality of homework are not good and also they can not have a good brain rest . Therefore, friends, go to bed early and have a good rest.

Public Lecture

On May.8, 2007 I went to a public lecture about palliative care in McGill University. From May 7 to 13, 2007 is palliative care week, also this year is the tenth anniversary of the Sandra Goldberg Memorial Lectures.

In this lecture, they mention about “palliative care is not just about cancer” , it should not just give at the last moment when people will die. Dr. Gain Domenico Borasio shows us lots of examples to support his ideas. Also, he tries to use those examples and facts to let public know how importance palliative care is in our life.

There were 3 speakers in this public lecture. The first one was a mid-age lady, and she was a host of this lecture. She started the lecture on time, and told some information about this lecture. However, she was not good speaker because she always read her notes during her speaking. The second speaker was better than the host; he is a little bit older than the lady. When he was speaking, he used power point to show the information and spoke clearly. The third one is Dr. Borasio. He comes from Germany, but he can speak English very well, that is very important to audience to understand. In addition, he used power point to show us lots of examples and facts.

The audience in the lecture maybe was 100. 85% of them were older people, the age were between 50-60. Some of them asked simple questions during 10 minutes, and also there was special one, he told us his own experience about palliative care.

In my opinion, I really like this project, and really enjoyed it so much. First of all, it was the first English lecture I went outside class in Canada. Secondly, I think it was a good chance to know more about the life in Canada. Also, it was a good model to show us what a good speaker is and what bad speaker is. Therefore, when we do our own experience we can pay attention about those points. In addition, it also was a good chance to know the classmates better; we ate dinner together, talked with each other and shared our interesting experiences in our life. That was good for us to build more deeply friendships with each other.

Population--my opinions

When I was in childhood, in china just had few cars on the street,fewer people than now, and also less busy traffic. However, because from I began my education, i always in the best schools in our cities, there are so many students in one class--at least 60! Therefore, we just had very little space for each person, sometimes it was hard to cross between desks......

Now, in china still have large population, we already use family plan to control, but because the population base in too large,so it is still a seriouly problem to the govement! However, now in my city and also some others ,some not very good schools need to face a problem---close! There are not enough students to them,because the birth rate is reducing a lot! Also, because the family plan just alow some parents have one baby, so some of them use some methods to know the gender of baby, then choose male. In addation,in China, the law about family plan now is allowing some couples have two babies---if these two people are the single in his and her family. However, because the fees of one baby is already expensive to them ,so almost of them still perfer to choose having one baby.As a result, in schools ,it is very hard to make banlance of male and female! One of my friends is a teacher now, she told me in her class have 45 kids now, 32boys and just 13 girls!

Family plan is really good to control growth of population but it has lots of problems! How we can get better banlance of them, i think the best way is educating people better! Tell them how the important of this problem,and tell them the right idea about how to face and deal with this seriosly problem!
We just have one earth ,just one world can live on,at least until now we do not find another one can instead of it! Therefore, we should pay much more attention about it, because the large population has lots of problems,such as food shortage,and bad environment, also not good quality of life!
